SUMMARY

I came into teaching in the Thompson School District six years ago. With a background in Manufacturing and Construction, I went to Colorado State University to work on my Masters and teaching credential. I was a graduate instructor for small manufacturing (MC151) and team building and leadership (MC110). I have been teaching at Berthoud High School for 5 years and have been heavily promoting the trades so students realize there are other options for career paths outside of the college track. I am also the Assistant Director for the National Center for Craftsmanship.

EXPERIENCE

Here at BHS we believe in continuing the age old practice of passing down the skills and ethics found in quality craftsmanship. The products made by the students are of the highest quality and demonstrate the true meaning of craftsmanship. The acquired hands-on skills give the students opportunities to express themselves and promote an authentic learning experience. Each student project sold illustrates to the students that their skills have value, and the students could make a good living using both their mind and hands. Students over the past 4 yrs. have been selling “turned” (on wood lathes) wood bottle stoppers and wood pens, among the other projects that are required in class. Our program is always looking to form strategic partnerships with businesses and individuals that can help promote education in the trades through expert speakers, demonstrations, and training. Donations of materials and funding are always appreciated and are tax deductible.
