The National Center for Craftsmanship (http://www.nccraftsmanship.org/)
recently completed the deconstruction of the old Steele’s Market Center on W.
Mountain Street in Fort Collins. Deconstruction, or the systematic dismantling
and recycling of unwanted buildings, is an emerging part of the green building
industry. The Center uses deconstruction as a training activity that allows youth
and adult students to explore the construction trades in a real-time “learning

Sutherlands Lumber and Design Gallery of Fort Collins (http://sutherlands.com/designgallery/) and the National Center for Craftsmanship (http://www.nccraftsmanship.org/) are excited to announce the formation of a strategic business alliance to provide education, training, and marketing services to local businesses and contractors.

Beginning January 26th, the National Center for Craftsmanship is bringing our DeConstruct program to the Steele's Market at 309 W. Mountain Ave in Fort Collins, CO. Almost ten years vacant, the Steele's Market building will be DeConstructed and materials recycled to make room for new possibilities in Old Town Fort Collins.

The NCC with the help of volunteers will be on site Monday through Friday 8:00  a.m. to 4:30 p.m. until March 1, 2010. For more information about DeConstruct, or to volunteer, please visit the National Center for Craftsmanship website: www.nccraftsmanship.org

The National Center for Craftsmanship participated in the kick-off ribbon-cutting of the Winter Markets with members of City Council, DDA, and others on Saturday November 14th.
 
More than 40 vendors at each market, selling produce, eggs, meat and poultry, wine and cider, cheese, bread and baked goods, coffee, locally-made food specialties and crafts and other locally-produced gift items. It's a great way to connect with the community!

The Craftsmanship Network team launched the Boulder chapter on Tuesday evening, October 20th. The event was hosted by Jodi Feinhor-Dennis at her wonderful eco-fashionable Invironments interior design showroom on Pearl Street. Jodi has been a high-energy supporter of the Craftsmanship Network concept from the moment we met her back in August. Jodi is the Chapter Founder for all of Boulder county and will inform the Boulder community about the mission and values of the Craftsmanship Network.

We were pleased to see that students from one of our recent projects were featured in a Forbes magazine article. The article described the Fort Collins/Loveland area as one of the most affordable areas in the country to live.

This photograph was taken at our deconstruct on north Overland Trail. This was the project that was filmed by the Discovery Channel's "Renovation Nation." The air date for this has yet to be announced.

With five successful deconstruct projects under our belt, our Spring 2009 youth training project caught the attention of Discovery Channel producers. Steve Thomas, formerly of PBS’s “This Old House” and his crew filmed our deconstruction of a 110-year-old farmstead for the City of Fort Collins, Colorado.
